Nick Belmonte has been instrumental in helping prospective independent baseball players find teams on which to play since the beginning of the current incarnation of the independent leagues in 1993. He runs the Indy Pro Showcase a few times each year and often serves as the official league tryout coordinator for various independent leagues.

The AWL is a for-pay developmental league run by the organization tied with the North American League (and previously the Golden League). The league is considered to be instructional, and players play for teams usually managed by field managers in the NAL and occasionally other leagues.
