BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Don Drysdale – June 19, 2016 The temperature may have been hot on Saturday night at a sold out Jimmy John’s field, but it was not as hot as Utica Unicorns starting pitcher Evan Piechota had been through his first four United Shore Professional Baseball League starts. Unfortunately for the Unicorns, the Eastside Diamond Hoppers ended up figuring out Piechota just enough to hold on for a 4-3 win. Piechota came into the game having thrown 13 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings to start the season, but that streak ended abruptly in the first inning thanks to Diamond Hoppers CF Luke Ortell, who singled and then scored the games first run following a Corey Caswell base hit. Piechota then retired the next two Hoppers batters to keep the score at 1-0. Ortell, who was 0-for-10 over his past three games, busted out of his slump in a big way on Saturday, as he went 4-for-5 with two runs scored. Diamond Hoppers manager Paul Noce was very happy to see Ortell get back in the hit column. “He’s a hitter.” Noce said following the game. “I think he’s been kind of pressing a little bit and…
