USPBL 9/9 Update: Crutcher, Wilson named co-MVPs before Friday night’s All Star Game

By Adam Rickert West All Stars 0 AT East All Stars 0 UTICA — Austin Crutcher of the Utica Unicorns and Nic Wilson of the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers were named USPBL co-MVPs in a special ceremony before the league’s first-ever All Star Game on Friday night. “It was really cool getting acknowledged and it means a lot to me,” said Crutcher after his East All Stars played to a 0-0 tie in five innings against the West All Stars. Crutcher made the biggest play of the game, throwing Ray Ortega out at home plate from left field in the third inning to keep the game scoreless. Crutcher, the left fielder for the Unicorns, was joined by Beavers first baseman Nic Wilson, the league’s other co-MVP, on the East All Star squad. “He’s a heck of a ballplayer,” Crutcher said of Wilson. “He’s got a lot of pop, a lot of power and he’s a very patient hitter.” Wilson led the USPBL in batting average at .340 and in home runs with 17. Crutcher was the league RBI leader, driving in 51 runs; 10 more than anyone else. “It was cool playing with Nic and talking baseball with him,” said Crutcher. Crutcher…
