BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Adam Rickert Eastside Diamond Hoppers 0 AT Utica Unicorns 1 UTICA — A solo home run by Brandon Rawe was all the Utica Unicorns needed to beat the Eastside Diamond Hoppers, 1-0, on Friday night. Starting pitcher Chance Simpson silenced a Diamond Hoppers lineup that had won five straight games and scored 46 runs in that span. “I did my best to try to throw strikes and trusted my defense to make plays behind me,” said Simpson. “They pulled through and made some great plays behind me, for sure.” Although he wasn’t taking it, plenty of the credit for Utica’s win went to Simpson. He tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five. “My two-seam fastball was working really well for me today,” he said. “I didn’t throw a lot of breaking balls and I didn’t throw a lot of changeups, so it was just a lot of two-seamers today.” Being the fourth pitcher on Utica’s staff, Simpson doesn’t get to start too often since his team normally averages three games per week.
