BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Adam Rickert Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 2 AT Utica Unicorns 3 UTICA — Two runs in the seventh inning and fabulous relief work from Mitch Aker helped the Utica Unicorns earn a 3-2 victory over the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers on Saturday night. Headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Unicorns trailed by a run. After the stretch, shortstop Ian Yetsko tied things up for Utica with an RBI single and Connor Narron put his team ahead with a sacrifice fly to left. In the top of the eighth, the Unicorns were in need of a shutdown inning from relief pitcher Mitch Aker. Aker delivered, shutting down Beavers hitters DJ Gee, Miles Williams and Kevin Wirth in order while picking up a strikeout. “A shutdown inning like that keeps the momentum on our side,” said Aker. “We rode that into the ninth inning as well and got the win.” The momentum certainly carried over for Aker, in particular. He was dominant in the ninth inning, getting Beavers shortstop DJ Martinez to fly out to center for the third out, giving Aker his first save of the year.
