BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS Eastside Diamond Hoppers 9 AT Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 1 Eastside Diamond Hoppers 1 AT Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 2 By Adam Rickert UTICA — The Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers maintained their 1.5-game lead on the Eastside Diamond Hoppers for first place in the USPBL as the teams split a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. The Hoppers pulled within just a half game of the Beavers by nabbing a 9-1 win in the 2:00pm game, which was originally scheduled for August 12 but suspended in the first inning due to rain. Eastside was fortunate enough to begin Saturday’s action with a 3-0 lead, as three Hoppers were able to score in the first inning on August 12 before the downpour. After the game was resumed, the Hoppers picked up five runs in the fourth inning and added one more in the fifth. Shortstop Kam Stewart stayed hot at the plate, picking up his fourth home run of the year and going 2-for-3. Hoppers center fielder Luke Ortel also homered. Connor Root was fantastic for the Diamond Hoppers on the mound, earning the win by going five innings and giving up just one run on five hits. The loss was the Beavers’ seventh…
