BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Adam Rickert Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 1 AT Utica Unicorns 2 UTICA — The magic continued for the Utica Unicorns on Friday night as Chris Cruz’s walk-off home run lifted them to a 2-1 win over the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers. With the score knotted at one apiece and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Cruz stepped in to face Beavers pitcher Neal Kunik. He belted a no-doubt solo homer over the right field wall, winning the game for Utica. “That was great,” said an elated Cruz. “Walk-offs are always fun and you can’t really beat that. It’s an amazing way to win a game.” Coming into the ninth, the only runs for each team came in the form of second-inning solo shots – both from right fielders. Miles Williams gave the Beavers a 1-0 advantage in the top of the second with his seventh dinger of the year, but the lead wouldn’t last long. Sure enough, Cruz pulled the Unicorns back even in the bottom of the frame with a home run. The Unicorns are now 17-22 after winning seven of their past eight games.
