BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Adam Rickert Eastside Diamond Hoppers 5 AT Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 3 UTICA — It wasn’t easy, but the Eastside Diamond Hoppers were able to escape Sunday afternoon’s USPBL contest with a 5-3 win over the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers. The win snapped the first-place Beavers’ three-game win streak, dropping them to 19-11 on the year. Second baseman Kam Stewart and shortstop Ricky Castro led the Diamond Hopper offense despite being the bottom two hitters in the order. Overall, they combined to go 5-for-7, scoring two of Eastside’s five runs. Stewart went 2-for-4 and scored a run while also drawing a walk. A third-inning single stretched his current hitting streak to seven games. In that span, he has collected 10 hits and raised his batting average from .211 to .259. “I’ve been mainly focusing on hitting the ball up the middle more,” said Stewart. “I’m trying to keep my swing as short as I can and stay through the middle, and it’s been helping me a lot.” Castro went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
