BOX SCORE AND GAME STATS By Adam Rickert Utica Unicorns 1 AT Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 5 UTICA — A game that was primarily dominated by pitching was busted open in the seventh inning as the Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers scored four en route to a 5-1 victory over the Utica Unicorns. The win was Birmingham-Bloomfield’s seventh in their past nine games, as the Beavers improved their record to 19-10 and tightened their grip on first place in the USPBL. “Everybody battles,” said right fielder Kevin Wirth. “We’re swinging hard, the pitchers are throwing and it’s a good club; we all click.” Dan Ortega broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single in the seventh inning. After an infield single by D.J. Gee that loaded the bases, Wirth singled to bring home an important insurance run. “I’ve been struggling at the plate lately and I was just looking for a pitch where I could put the barrel on the ball,” said Wirth. “I just got a good piece right in front of the center fielder; I’m glad he didn’t catch it.” Wirth finished 2-for-4 with an RBI on the day, also reaching a third time on an error. “When you’re struggling like that, you’ve…
