By Adam Rickert Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers 7 AT Utica Unicorns 1 UTICA — The Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers collected 12 hits en route to a 7-1 win over the Utica Unicorns Sunday afternoon at Jimmy John’s Field. All nine starters reached base at least one time each, and Austin Leyritz even got in on the fun off the bench with a pinch-hit single. “We don’t ever rely on just one person,” said first baseman Nic Wilson. We can score lots of ways and it’s a lot of fun when everybody comes out, swings it and runs around.” Wilson got the ball rolling for the Beavers in the top of the third. With two men on, he launched an absolute missile of a home run that sailed well over the Chevrolet Pavilion in left field. “Any time you get good contact, that’s just what you’re looking for,” said Wilson. “It felt good to square one up and be able to score for our team.” Wilson’s moonshot made him the first USPBL player to collect 10 home runs on the year.
