By: Tyler Curran August 22nd, 2016 UTICA, MI- Confidence has become a key component for Birmingham Beavers outfielder, Fernelys Sanchez, and has been due in part to his patience and past baseball history. Valuing his time and experience has become a proactive way of development for the outfielder as he looks to continue using all he has learned to become a better player. A midseason addition to the USPBL, Sanchez joined the Birmingham Beavers in late July of 2016. Sanchez was a 16th round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in the 2012 MLB Draft and he played the 2012 season with the Braves Rookie Team (also the same year he graduated high school). However, he was limited when he broke his left fibula that positioned him at designated hitter for most of his senior season in high school and some scouts saw this as a minor impediment to be efficient at the next level. This made the transition from high school to the minors not an easy one for the young outfielder. “My timing was messed up and I had to make adjustments after not seeing the ball for awhile following high school,” Sanchez explains.
