Unicorns Bounce Back to Beat Hoppers, 4-3

UTICA. Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (18-16) defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (16-15), despite being outhit 6-2, with a final score of 4-3, Sunday at Jimmy John’s Field.

The Hoppers scored one run on two hits in the third inning, starting their offense when Bryant Shellenbarger singled, immediately followed by Noah Marcoux hitting an RBI double, scoring Bailey Martin.

Eastside would strike again in the fifth. Matt Goehrig flew out, bringing in Grant Stephenson. Todd Mattox hit an RBI single, allowing Marcoux to score a run and giving the Hoppers a 3-0 lead. Harry Orth started on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing no hits or runs.

The Unicorns tallied their first hit of the game in the seventh inning, a double from Sam Buduris. Patrick Baggett walked into loaded bases in the eighth inning, allowing Andre Demetral to score the game’s first run for Utica. Two more runs were added to tie the contest before Kyle Schmack’s RBI double, which scored Cam Farrar, giving the Unicorns the lead and the win.
