UTICA, Mich. – The Utica Unicorns (20-17) had a nice hitting day, totaling 11 hits, securing the victory over the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (17-18), with a final score of 6-1 Sunday at Jimmy John’s Field.
The Unicorns struck first in the ballgame, scoring their first run in the third inning. Sam Buduris started the offense hitting a double, which was immediately followed by another double from Kyle Schmack, allowing Buduris to score from second.
Bryant Shellenbarger earned an RBI on a sacrifice, allowing Zeb Roos to score from third and tie the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Austin Ochoa regained the lead for the Unicorns a solo home-run in the top of the fifth. The Unicorns extended their lead, 3-1, in the eighth. Ochoa continued his impressive performance, hitting an RBI single. Utica added on three more runs in the ninth to secure the victory. Ethan Krizen, Buduris, and Andre Demetral all scored runs and Patrick Baggett had two RBI.
