WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (23-17) beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 6-4 at Shaw Park on Tuesday night.

Box Score

The RedHawks (29-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.  Sam Dexter drew a one-out walk, and came home on a two-out, two-run home run down the right field line from Evan Alexander.

Deon Stafford Jr. led off the bottom of the third with a double.  Three batters later, Kevin Lachance came back from a 1-2 count and extended the inning with a walk.  Ian Sagdal then lined a single to centre that scored Stafford.

Fargo-Moorhead re-extended the lead in the top of the fourth when Leobaldo Pina hit a leadoff double and scored on back-to-back wild pitches.

In the bottom of the fourth, walks to Logan Hill and Eric Rivera, and a David Washington infield single loaded the bases.  Reggie Pruitt Jr. smacked an opposite-field grand slam home run off the bottom of the scoreboard in right-centre field to put Winnipeg ahead 5-3.  It was Pruitt’s second grand slam of the season.

The RedHawks threatened in the top of the fifth, putting runners on first and second with one out.  Alexander slugged a long drive to right-centre that cleared the fence.  Max Murphy, however, made a leaping catch reaching over the wall to pull back what would have been a go-ahead three-run home run.  Murphy fired the ball back to the infield where Dexter was doubled off first base to end the inning.

Stafford stretched the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run down the left field line.

The RedHawks pulled within 6-4 in the top of the eight on a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Pina.  Tasker Strobel recorded the final out of the inning and stranded the bases loaded to protect the lead.  Strobel then worked a perfect top of the ninth to earn his 11th save of the year.  Sagdal flipped into the first row of seats down the third base line to catch a popup from Ben Livorsi for the first out in the ninth.

Freisis Adames (4-3) started for the Goldeyes and picked up the win, allowing three earned runs on two hits in six innings.  Adames walked three and struck out five.

RedHawks’ starter Tyler Grauer (4-2) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits in five innings.  Grauer walked four and struck out six.

Travis Seabrooke pitched a scoreless top of the seventh for Winnipeg.

Game two of the three-game series is Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m.  RJ Martinez (4-1, 3.38) faces left-hander Peyton Wigginton (1-1, 4.15).
