LINCOLN, NE – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (6-8) lost 4-3 to the Lincoln Saltdogs at Haymarket Park on Friday night.

Box Score

With the Goldeyes leading 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Saltdogs (9-3) rallied for three runs to take the lead.  Gary Discarcina Jr. singled through the left side leading off and took second on a wild pitch.  Two batters later, Ryan Long singled through the right side to score Discarcina.  Josh Altmann reached on an infield single, and a wild pitch moved runners to second and third with one out.  With the infield in, Welington Dotel hit a chopper to second base that was gloved by Andrew Martinez who threw to the plate.  Long managed to retreat to third while Dotel was safe at first on the fielder’s choice.  Lincoln tied the game when Eddy Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly to centre that scored Long.  Two batters later, Matthew Goodheart drew a two-out, bases loaded walk to give the Saltdogs their first lead of the night.

Reggie Pruitt Jr. singled leading off the top of the ninth, but was forced out at second on a close play after Long made a diving stop behind the third base bag on an Hidekel Gonzalez groundball.  Former Major League right-hander Brandon Cunniff then ended the game on a groundball double play to earn his fourth save of the year.

Carson Lance (1-0) picked up the win in relief after striking out the side in order in the top of the eighth.

Erasmo Pinales (0-3) took the loss for the Goldeyes.

Winnipeg took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  With two outs and no one on base, a Raul Navarro walk, a David Washington single, and a Logan Hill hit batsman loaded the bases.  Max Murphy then singled up the middle to drive home Navarro and Washington.

Dotel hit an opposite-field home run to right-centre with one out in the bottom of the fourth to put Lincoln on the board.

The Goldeyes made it 3-1 in the top of the seventh when Pruitt walked leading off, stole second, took third on a Gonzalez groundout, and scored on an Ian Sagdal sacrifice fly to left.

Josh Lucas started for the Goldeyes and took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on just two hits over seven innings.  Lucas walked none and struck out four.

Garrett Delano started for the Saltdogs and also took a no-decision, allowing two earned runs on four hits in six innings.  Delano walked two and struck out five.

Navarro’s eight-game hitting streak was snapped.

Game two of the three-game series is Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.  Alex Manasa (0-1, 5.40) faces left-hander Buddy Baumann (0-0, 2.00).  All the action can be heard locally on CJNU 93.7 FM and worldwide at www.cjnu.ca beginning with Around the Association at 6:00 p.m.
