UTICA, Mich. – The Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers (16-28, 1-0) defeated the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (23-21, 0-1) in playoff game #1, 6-4, Thursday night of Championship Weekend at Jimmy John’s Field.
The Beavers put their ace on the mound, Greg Loukinen, would tossed 6.0 innings, scattering eight hits and allowing three runs. Loukinen struck out ten batters and improved his season record to 9-5. The Hoppers threw their Pitcher of the Year Candidate, Pierce Banks, who threw 4.1 innings.
Offensively for the Beavers, Joe Burke went 2-for-4 with one of those hits being a home run, and bringing in two runs. Ray Hilbrich ended the night with two hits and MVP Matt Piotrowski had one hit and one run scored. Blake Bean added two RBI to his season total.
For the Hoppers, Ben Ferguson went 3-for 5 with two RBI. Noah Marcoux had two hits and scored twice and Grant Stephenson had two hits as well.
The Beavers will take on the No. 2 seeded Westside Woolly Mammoths tomorrow night, September 6th, at 6:30 p.m. for playoff game #2. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
