MILKMEN ROLL REDHAWKS IN GAME ONE.

Franklin, WI – The Milwaukee Milkmen responded to their away series loss to the Sioux City Explorers by crushing the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at home by a score of 10-1, defeating the team that had swept them in Fargo just over a week ago.
Milwaukee began strong with a three-run first inning that was started by a Mason Davis single followed by Keon Barnum and Correlle Prime walks. Dylan Kelly then scored Davis with a single of his own and kept the bases loaded. A drawn walk from Will Kengor then allowed Barnum to trot home for a score. And finally a sacrifice-fly from Aaron Hill got prime in for a 3-0 lead.
The Milkmen then scored three more runs in the third inning, started by a Kelly double. Kelly then scored when an outfield single off the bat of Kengor was mishandled by the center fielder and Kengor himself advanced to second. Hill then followed with another single that scored Kengor and Christ Conley then cracked a double to score Hill.
The last score of the night for Milwaukee came in a four-run fifth inning that once again began with a base-hit from Kelly that was followed by a Kengor single. Two at-bats later Conley hit a three-run home run to the Terrapin Terrace that cleared the bases. Bryan Torres then followed with another base-hit and he was later driven in to score when Mason Davis also hit a double, the fourth extra-base-hit of the game for the Milkmen.
The Spiderz Batting Gloves Player of the Game was awarded to Dylan Kelly who continued to collect hits, having a five-for-five night that brought his season average to .386, good for third best in the American Association.
“We got back kinda early,” Kelly said of his performance after traveling back from Sioux City the night before. “It’s tough but thank goodness Conley was back there tonight (at catcher). I got a night off and I was able to just be the DH, but I was definitely in the cage with the guys early today. My lower half definitely feels a lot better today.”
The Milkmen defense was just as dominant as well. Starting pitcher A.J. Jones threw seven innings and allowed only one run that was a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. He also only allowed five hits, no walks, and tossed six strikeouts on the mound as well.
“I think we were a little determined today after losing the series to Sioux City and definitely wanted to show who we are and we played like it tonight like we usually do.” Jones said of his performance.
Jones was relieved by University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate Jack Mahoney who made his first appearance in professional baseball, giving up only one hit in his two innings of work and one strikeout to go with it.
Despite busing from Sioux City, Iowa back to Milwaukee the night before, Milwaukee did not show any signs of a “travel hangover.”
“It’s what I’m most proud of, it’s not easy when you play a late night game in another state and you get on the bus for eight hours and it’s like you’re in another world,” manager Anthony Barone said of the teams ability to be unaffected by the late night travel. “That’s called a travel hangover, and our guys just came out ready with a lot of energy.”
The Milkmen will still play two more games against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, with tomorrow’s game set to start at 6:00 p.m. at Franklin Field.
