UTICA, Mich. – The Westside Woolly Mammoths (7-5) won in dramatic fashion, when Francis Florentino hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth innings, walking off the Eastside Diamond Hoppers (9-5), with a final score of 5-3, in front of a sold out crowd on Father’s Day at Jimmy John’s Field.
Ben Ferguson singled in the first, followed by a ground-rule double by Todd Mattox to earn the Hoppers their first run of the game.
Eastside’s lead would be short-lived, however, as Florentino would send Jose Cedeno home on a single up the middle to earn an RBI and tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third.
Noah Marcoux would double in the sixth, and the Hoppers would load the bases, yet were only able to score one run, advancing Marcoux from third after Jake Shier was hit by pitch. Marcoux would also hit a home run in the seventh inning, his 4th of the early season.
Nick Pastore would tighten the game for the Mammoths after an RBI double in the seventh, followed by another run in the eighth to tie the game 3-3. The rest was history as Florentino took the plate and knocked in the game winning two runs.
