Lincoln Sets Records In Win Over Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, South Dakota- The Lincoln Saltdogs set a franchise record for runs in one game, by defeating the Sioux Falls Canaries, 22-11, at Sioux Falls Stadium, Sunday.  Highlighting the performance was a second inning in which Lincoln sent nineteen batters to the plate and scored thirteen runs.  Griffin Everitt had three plate appearances in the inning.  Jake Hjelle homered for Lincoln, in the win, while Josh Rehwaldt, Trevor Auchenbach and T.J. Racherbaumer all hit home runs for the Canaries, in the loss.

Lincoln (43-56) scored twenty-two runs, off twenty-two hits, committed no errors, and left ten runners on base.  With the victory, Lincoln surpassed it’s 2025-win total of 42 and notched its most wins since the 2023 team recorded 48 wins.  Sioux Falls (50-49) scored eleven runs, with fourteen hits, had one error, and left six runners on base.  Saturday’s game was pushed back one hour to afternoon rain showers, then lasted three hours and twelve minutes and was played in front of 1,121 fans.

The Saltdogs fetched the lead in the top of the first.  Facing Sioux Falls starter Thomas Dorminy, Cam Phelts led off the game with a single.  Then, Nick Shumpert singled, putting runners on the corners.  The next batter, Jake Hjelle, singled, scoring Phelts, to make it 1-0.  Then, Connor Bagnieski grounded out to second, scoring Shumpert, to make it a 2-0 Lincoln lead.

Sioux Falls answered with a run in the bottom of the first.  Facing Lincoln starter Foster Pace, Josh Rehwaldt drew a one-out walk.  Then, Michael Curialle singled.  Anthony Hall singled and Rehwaldt rounded third too far, drawing a throw from Jake Hjelle to third where Calyn Halvorson tagged out Rehwaldt for the second out.  Then, Grady Mee singled, scoring Curialle, to make it 2-1.

Then, Lincoln blew the game wide open in the top of the second.  Facing reliever Eric Waldichuk, Griffin Everitt led off with a walk.  Paul Myro IV grounded to third, where Cam Hassert threw to second, forcing out Everitt for the first out.  Cam Phelts drew a walk.  Lincoln executed a double-steal, putting runners on second and third.  Then a Waldichuk balk scored Myro.  Nick Shumpert drew a walk.  Then, Jake Hjelle hit a three-run home run to left field.  His seventeenth homer of the season put Lincoln up 6-1.  Connor Bagnieski doubled.  Cary Arbolida singled.  Then, Tanner O’Tremba doubled, scoring Bagnieski.  Calyn Halvoeron drew a walk.  Griffin Everitt was hit by a pitch, with the bases loaded, scoring Arbolida.  Paul Myro IV drew a walk, scoring O’Tremba.  Cam Phelts walked, scoring Halvorson.  Sioux Falls went to the bullpen and brought in Christian Edwards.  Nick Shumpert singled, scoring two runs.  Two batters later, Connor Bagnieski singled.  Then, Cary Arbolida singled.  Tanner O’Tremba drew a bases loaded walk.  Then, Calyn Halvorson did the same, to make the score 15-1.

The Canaries battled back in the bottom of the third inning.  Josh Rehwaldt led off with a walk.  Then, Michael Curialle singled.  Two batters later, Grady Mee walked.  Joe Vos singled, driving in two runs.  Then, Trevor Auchenbach hit a three-run home run to left field, making the score 15-6.

Lincoln got a run back in the top of the fourth.  Facing reliever Scott Combs, Connor Bagnieski doubled.  Then, Cary Arbolida singled, scoring Bagnieski, to make it 16-6.

Sioux Falls plated a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth.  With one out, Josh Rehwaldt hit a solo home run to right field.  Then, Michael Curialle singled.  Anthony Hall smacked a base hit.  Grady Mee singled.  Then, Joe Vos hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Curialle, to make it 16-8.

The Saltdogs extended their cushion in the top of the sixth.  With one out, Cary Arbolida singled.  Tanner O’Tremba doubled.  Then, Calyn Halvorson singled, driving in two runs.  Griffin Everitt singled.  Two batters later, Cam Phelts singled, scoring Halvorson.  Then, Nick Shumpert drove in two with a single, to make the score 21-8.

Lincoln added one more run in the top of the eighth.  Facing reliever T.J. Racherbaumer, Griffin Everitt hit a one-out double.  Two batters later, Cam Phelts singled, scoring Everitt, to make it 22-8.

The Canaries attempted a rally in the bottom of the ninth.  Facing Lincoln reliever Zac McCleve, Grady Mee drew a one-out walk.  Then, Joe Vos singled.  Two batters later, T.J. Racherbaumer hit a three-run home run to right field, to make it 22-11.  However, McCleve got Scott Combs to ground out to first base, to end the game.

Saltdogs starting pitcher Foster Pace threw 3.2 innings, giving up eight runs, off ten hits, struck out two and walked four.  Ryan Rembisz (4-5) earned the win, pitching 2.1 innings, giving up one hit and struck out two.  Tyler Stasiowski pitched 1.0 inning, yielding one hit.  Gabriel Jaramillo threw 1.0 inning and walked one.  Zac McCleve pitched 1.0 inning, giving up three runs, off two hits, struck out one and walked one.

Sioux Falls starter Thomas Dorminy (6-4) took the loss, pitching 0.2 innings, giving up two runs, off three hits, struck out one and walked one.  Eric Waldichuk pitched 0.1 inning surrendering eleven runs, off four hits and walked six.  Christian Edwards pitched 1.0 inning, yielding two runs, off three hits and walked two.  Scott Combs threw 4.0 innings, giving up six runs, off ten hits and walked one.  T.J. Racherbaumer pitched 3.0 innings, yielding one run off two hits.

Offensively for Lincoln, Cam Phelts was 3-for-5 with three RBIs.  Nick Shumpert was 4-for-5 with four runs batted in.  Jake Hjelle was 2-for-7 with a three-run home run and four runs batted in.  Connor Bagnieski was 3-for-7 with an RBI.  Cary Arbolida was 4-for-7 with an RBI.  Tanner O’Tremba went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs.  Calyn Halvorson was 1-for-4 with three runs batted in.  Griffin Everitt went 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Paul Myro IV was 1-for-3 and drove in one run.

For the Canaries. Josh Rehwaldt was 1-for-2 with a solo home run.  Michael Curialle was 3-for-5.  Anthony Hall went 2-for-5.  Grady Mee went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.  Joe Vos was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs.  Trevor Auchenbach was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run.  T.J. Racherbaumer was 1-for-3 with a three-run home run.

The previous record of runs in one game for Lincoln was twenty, which was reached three times, most recently on August 12, 2023, versus the Kansas City Monarchs, at Haymarket Park, in Lincoln.  The Saltdogs also set a franchise record for total bases in a game with 107.
