Kansas City’s Late-Game Offense Crucial in Game 3 Victory

ROSEMONT, ILL. – The Kansas City Monarchs defeated the Chicago Dogs 5-4 Sunday afternoon at Impact Field. The loss ends the Dogs’ two-game winning streak and drops them to 17-16 this season.
The Monarchs rallied four runs in the final two innings, after trailing 3-1 through seven. The Monarchs scored three times in the top of the eighth inning. Keon Broxton scorched a two-run home run, and Gavin Collins laced an RBI double.
Dylan Rosa launched an insurance home run in the ninth inning, which ultimately secured the victory for Kansas City.
Dogs’ starting pitcher Trevor Lane was phenomenal in his six-inning appearance. Lane tossed six innings, allowed two hits and one earned run against the Monarchs. His start was the longest since May 26 at Cleburne, when he also threw six innings and allowed one earned run.
The Dogs scored three runs in the first six innings against Kansas City starting pitcher Zach Matson. Josh Altmann drove in Jesus Lujano in the bottom of the third inning. Chicago added two more runs in the sixth inning. Donivan Williams drove in Nick Heath on a fly ball to Dylan Rosa, who dropped the ball in left field.
Luke Mangieri continued his recent success when he smacked a double to center field. Williams scored on the play, and the Dogs took the lead heading into the final innings of the game.
Kansas City relief pitcher Trey Jeans hurled three innings out of the bullpen. Jeans yielded one earned run – a Cody Bohanek solo home run – in the bottom of the ninth inning with nobody out. Jeans retired the next three batters and earned the save for the Monarchs.
The series finale will take place Monday night at Impact Field. The first pitch is at 6:30 p.m.
