UTICA, Mich. – The Eastside Diamond Hoppers (8-3) continued to build on their league-best record against the Utica Unicorns (6-5) at Jimmy John’s Field on Sunday afternoon in front of a lively crowd, which is exactly what they did, aided by a great performance from the bullpen.
Bailey Martin would begin the scoring for Eastside in the top of the first with an RBI double, followed by another RBI double from Bryant Shellenbarger, ending the inning with two runs on two hits.
The Unicorns would also bring some offense in the first inning, putting a run on the board off of a Jared Weber RBI double.
Whit Hughes would hit his first home run of the season opening the second inning for the Hoppers, extending their lead 3-1.
The offense would slow to a halt for both teams for the rest of the game, with no hits or runs from either team after the fourth inning.
