Goldeyes Score Early and Often to Even Series

CLEBURNE, TX – The Winnipeg Goldeyes (18-17) beat the Cleburne Railroaders 14-7 at The Depot at Cleburne Station on Wednesday night.

Box Score

Raul Navarro led off the game and reached second on an error by Railroaders’ third baseman Chase Simpson.  Three batters later, Ian Sagdal smacked a two-out, two-run home run to left-centre to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead.

Cleburne (10-25) pulled within 2-1 in the bottom of the second on a two-out, RBI double from Hill Alexander.

The Goldeyes answered back with a six-run top of the third in which 11 batters came to the plate.  Tristan Pompey singled to left-centre leading off.  After Navarro grounded into a fielder’s choice, Kevin Lachance walked to put runners on first and second.  Max Murphy hit a flyball to right field that was ruled an error on Alexander and ushered home Navarro.  With runners on second and third, Sagdal lined a single to left-centre that scored Lachance and Murphy to make it 5-1.  Two batters later, David Washington crushed a two-out, two-run home run to left-centre.  Eric Rivera reached on an infield single, and scored on a long single to right-centre from Logan Hill.

With one out in the top of the fourth, Murphy homered off the top of the scoreboard in left-centre to stretch the lead to 9-1.

The Goldeyes loaded the bases with two outs on three walks in the top of the fifth, and opened an 11-1 lead when Murphy singled on a line drive to centre that plated Hidekel Gonzalez and Pompey.

Gonzalez doubled home Washington in the top of the sixth to make it 12-1.

The Railroaders fought within 12-7 on a three-run home run from Alexander in the sixth, and a three-run home run from Simpson in the seventh.

Winnipeg re-extended the lead to 14-7 in the top of the ninth on a two-out, two-run home run to left from Lachance.

Freisis Adames (3-3) started for the Goldeyes and picked up the win, allowing four earned runs on six hits in five and two-thirds innings.  Adames walked two and struck out a season-high nine.

Austin Fairchild (0-1) started for the Railroaders and took the loss, allowing eight runs, one earned, on six hits in two and two-thirds.  Fairchild walked one and struck out four.

Travis Seabrooke and Erasmo Pinales combined to retire the final seven Railroaders’ batters.

Sagdal finished with four RBI, while Murphy had three hits and three RBI.  Pompey reached base four times in five plate appearances.  The 14 runs scored are a new season-high for Winnipeg.
