WEAVER REACHES MILESTONE

Marion, Ill. – Florence shortstop Travis Weaver played in his 400th career game yesterday as the Freedom, presented by Titan Mechanical Solutions, fell to the Southern Illinois Miners. When asked how it felt to be playing his 400th game, Weaver joked that it “hurts”. Florence’s shortstop has dealt with a myriad of injuries this season, but has still started 81 of the team’s 85 games. “I’m blessed to have this opportunity,” Weaver said before the game at Rent One Park in Marion, Illinois. “I consider myself lucky because not many people get to play for this long, especially at this level.” In the game, Weaver plated a run for the Freedom on a single and then scored the tying run in the sixth inning. Weaver has been a regular at shortstop ever since joining the team last year. Last season, he posted a career-high .983 fielding percentage, making just five errors in 76 games. This summer, the shortstop has posted his top offensive season, setting career highs in a multitude of categories, including doubles (11), home runs (four), RBIs (26), runs scored (37), and walks (21).
