Washington Use Big Fifth, Sixth Innings to Win Series

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things (21-17) won the series against the Schaumburg Boomers (28-11) Sunday afternoon by winning the rubber match 6-2 on the back of stellar pitching from the starter and good offensive output in the middle innings. Trevor Foss (5-3) got the win with his start on the mound, going six innings and allowing only one run on six hits while also striking out four batters. The highlight of his outing came in the sixth inning, when he loaded the bases with only one out, and was able to set the next two batters down in order to escape unscathed. The Boomers struck first on a solo home run from left fielder Kyle Ruchim in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the fifth, the Wild Things were able to tie and then take the lead off back-to-back RBI doubles from third baseman Mike Hill and catcher John Fidanza, putting Washington up 2-1 heading into the bottom frame.
