Vail Gets Another Opportunity, Signs With Diamondbacks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed right-handed pitcher Tyler Vail. “Couldn’t be happier for Tyler that this is happening,” Otters manager Andy McCauley said. “He did everything we asked him to do. “He set a good example for our team and the entire Frontier League.” Vail, an Easton, Pa. native, was signed by the Otters before the 2015 season after spending the previous five years in the Oakland Athletics’ organization. In two seasons with the Otters, Vail was 15-8 with a 4.06 ERA in 35 appearances. He pitched 206 innings while striking out 160 batters. “Tyler developed in a lot of ways,” McCauley said. “He grew as a person and as a pitcher.” Last season, Vail was vital in helping the Otters return to the Frontier League playoffs. He started 17 games and finished 6-3 with a 3.11 ERA. The opportunity for Vail to get back in affiliated baseball means a lot to him. “Second chances in the professional baseball, especially affiliated baseball, don’t come all the time,” Vail said. “I’m very happy, I’m going to take it, run with it and see how far I can go.” Vail said he will always cherish his time spent in…
