JOLIET, IL – The ThunderBolts took a big early lead and withstood a late Joliet charge to defeat the Slammers 8-6 at Slammers Stadium Tuesday night. The ThunderBolts (39-32) scored the game’s first three runs in the second inning. With one out, they got three straight hits, singles from Kyle Wood and Tim Zier and a two-run double for Corey Bass. Bass would score on a two-out single for Blair Beck. They added a run in the fourth when Wood singled and scored on a Ransom LaLonde base hit, then pulled away with three more runs in the sixth. Larry Balkwill walked, Zier singled and Bass singled to load the bases. LaLonde came through again with a two-run single and Beck brought home another run on a groundout. The Slammers (31-40) started a comeback with two runs in the sixth. They got singles in the inning from David Gonzalez, Melvin Rodriguez and Edwin Gomez, the latter two scoring runs. Coco Johnson led off the seventh with a single, stole second and third and scored on a Kyle Wood sacrifice fly to keep the ThunderBolts ahead 8-2.
