Marion, Ill. – With the Grizzlies trailing 2-0 in the seventh inning on Thursday night,, Tyler Tewell blasted a two-run homer to tie the game and would later drive in the winning run with a sac fly to propel Gateway to a 3-2 win at Rent One Park. The Grizzlies took the rubber game of their three-game set against the Southern Illinois Miners. RHP Trevor Richards got the start for the Grizzlies and battled Miners starter Jarrett Miller early on, as both pitchers did not allow a run through the first three frames. In the fourth, Aaron Gates led off the inning with a walk against Richards. After advancing to second on a wild pitch, he moved to third on a ground out. Richards then struck out Brendan O’Brien with two outs, but a dropped third strike squirted away from Tewell and allowed Gates to race home with the game’s first run. The Miners tacked on another run in the fifth when Gates struck an RBI double to make it 2-0. The score remained that way until Tewell’s second homer of the season in the seventh.
