Slammers Continue To Add To 2017 Roster

Joliet, IL —The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy are less than a month away from opening day and the 2017 roster continues to take shape. Juan Silva and Edwin Gomez, two prospects from Yabucoa, Puerto Rico headline the latest additions to the team. Both outfielders Silva and Gomez went to the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy for high school. Notable alumni of the academy include Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa. Silva was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 26th round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft and Gomez was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 4th round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft. “Silva has eight years of experience in the minor leagues and has played up to Triple-A,” Manager Jeff Isom said. “He has hit for high average and can steal bases. He is a very disciplined hitter who possesses a career .371 on base percentage. He will be in the middle of our lineup.” “Gomez can play all over the field.” Isom added.
