The Schaumburg Boomers shut out the Washington Wild Things 4-0 in game one of the Frontier League Championship Series. The game started as a pitcher’s duel, as neither starter allowed a run until the fifth. In the fifth, Schaumburg finally got to Washington starter and Frontier League Pitcher of the Year Ryan Hennen. Clint Hardy led off with a home run before Angelo Gumbs hit an inside-the-park home run after lining a ball to right that got past a diving Bralin Jackson. The next pair of runs came in the seventh, when Chase Dawson launched a two-run shot that made it 4-0 and added some insurance for the Boomers. Meanwhile, Schaumburg starter Kyle Arjona stood out on the mound, tossing 7.2 shutout innings and striking out eight in the win. Thomas Nicoll struck out the side to close it out in the ninth.
