The River City Rascals scored four runs in the 5th inning, including a bases clearing triple from Josh Silver, and Joe Scanio had his longest outing of the season to earn a 5-4 victory Tuesday night on the road against the Traverse City Beach Bums. Making his fourth start of the season, Rascals starter Joe Scanio was hit around early on but found a groove and ended up retiring 12 in a row at one point in a rematch of the 2015 Frontier League Championship series. “I have been trying to make an adjustment all year, I am a sinker ball guy and sometimes it doesn’t want to sink early,” Scanio said. “It started to feel a lot better tonight and then once we got the lead I just wanted to fill the zone, work quickly and not give them a chance to settle in.” Before he became dominant, the Beach Bums struck in their first opportunity off him behind a leadoff double from Ryan Bottger and a RBI single from third baseman Jose Vargas.
