Rascals Sweep Joliet and get over .500

O’FALLON, Mo.– River City (8-7) pounded out eleven hits in a 6-1 victory Sunday evening against the Joliet Slammers (4-11) giving the Rascals their first series sweep of the year and putting them in second place in the Western Division. The five run victory was the largest win of the year for the Rascals and the offense began in the opening frame with a solo home run from Mike Jurgella, his second of the year to put his club up 1-0. The slammers starter, Taskal Strobel, allowed three more hits in the inning but was helped out by shortstop Chaz Meadows to throw out Braxton Martinez at the plate and get himself out of the inning with no extra runs coming into score. The Rascals would get just one more hit against Strobel the remainder of his five inning affair, a double from Johnny Morales and he would leave the game in a 1-1 tie. The run to tie the game against Rascals starter Nate Hoffmann, who was in his first professional start, came in the third inning via a RBI single from Rock Shoulders.
