Otters win behind no-hitter from Shane Weedman

Marion, Ill. – The Evansville Otters defeated the Southern Illinois Miners behind a no-hitter from Shane Weedman. The no-hitter was just the second in organization history and the first since 2014 when Chad James threw one in a 7 inning game. Weedman went the distance walking just two batters while striking out 11 in the first no-hitter in the Frontier League this season. After walking Southern Illinois catcher Riley Moore in the second inning, Weedman proceeded to sit down the next 21 batters before his second walk in the ninth. Evansville (1-1) was held off the board through six innings on a quality start by Corey Sessions before breaking through in the seventh inning. Left fielder John Schultz led off the inning with a hit by pitch before stealing his way to second. An RBI double by center fielder Chris Sweeney would score Schultz to make it 1-0. The Otters added on to their lead again in the eigth inning. Catcher Dane Phillips led off the side with a deep home run to right field to make it 2-0.
