The first day of August included a home run derby, as well as the extension of a pair of win streaks after two series sweeps. Catch up on all of Sunday’s action here: The Gateway Grizzlies cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Joliet Slammers. Andres Regnault got the scoring started with a two-run single in the third inning to give Gateway a 2-0 lead. An inning later, Justin Jones added an RBI single to make it 3-0. Connor Owings ripped an RBI double in the sixth and made it 4-0 Grizzlies. In the top of the eighth, they were able to add three more insurance runs. Jose Rosario scored on an error by shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson, then Jones and Chase Vallot each hit sacrifice flies to bring the score to 7-0. The Slammers attempted to rally late in the ninth.
