Otters’ Weedman, Boomers’ David Harris take 2017 Week 1 Pitcher and Player of the Week Honors

SAUGET, Ill. – Opening Weekend proved to be an eventful one when the 25th season of the Frontier League began Friday night. Evansville Otters Pitcher Shane Weedman and Schaumburg Boomers Outfielder David Harris were named 2017 week 1 Pitcher and Player of the week as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. Shane Weedman and the Evansville Otters had a strong task when they traveled Marion on Saturday night to take on their West Division rival,  Southern Illinois Miners. After falling to the Miners 11-1 on Friday, the Otters looked to Weedman to get their first win of the season. Weedman started quiet but was on fire on the mound after striking out 2 batters in each of the 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th innings. Weedman finished the night with 11 strikeouts, 2 walks and was awarded the ball in the 9th and registered a complete game. Shane Weedman was signed by the Evansville Otters in 2015.
