Otters Take Down First Place Freedom

FLORENCE, Ky.– The Evansville Otters defeated the Florence Freedom 3-1 on Friday night to open up their weekend series. Max Duval had a standout performance allowing just one run and four hits in six innings. Duval also struck out six while walking only two to earn his second win of the year. Evansville (10-9) opened up the scoring in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead. John Schultz scored on an error by Freedom first baseman Jordan Brower. Josh Allen then scored on an RBI single from Chris Riopedre. The scoring then stalled until the sixth inning when the Otters added on their final run of the game. Lance Montano singled with one out in the sixth and was scored on an RBI single from John Schultz to make it 3-0. The Freedom tried to answer back in the seventh inning. Florence loaded the bases with no outs on two Otters errors and a walk. Kyano Cummings entered the ballgame in relief of Max Duval and gave up a sacrifice fly to Austin Wobrock that scored Collins Cuthrell.
