Miners Walk Off Rascals In Extra To Tie Series

MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners were down three separate times in the late innings against the River City Rascals on Saturday night at Rent One Park, but they clawed their way back each time, tying the score in the seventh and ninth before eventually winning it in the 11th inning on a walk-off single by Ryan Lashley for a 6-5 victory, their first in walk-off fashion this season. The Miners got on the board right away against River City starter Austin Warner as Craig Massey and Nolan Earley singled to set up Joel McKeithan, whose RBI single made the score 1-0. The Rascals would get that run back in the top of the second when Braxton Martinez hit a solo home run off of Miners starter Jared Messer to tie the score at 1-1. It would be the only run Messer allowed in his Miners debut over four innings, with the right-hander striking out four in the game. Warner also held the Miners off the scoreboard as the game would stay knotted at 1-1 until the top of the seventh. After a leadoff single by Jason Merjano against Brooks Trujillo, Jimmy Kerrigan replaced him on a fielder’s choice.…
