Miners Rally Late To Beat Rascals, Take Series

Marion, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners were trailing by multiple runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning for the second night in a row on Sunday, but again stormed back with three in the frame to tie the game followed by three more in the eighth to surge ahead en route to a 6-3 win over the River City Rascals in the rubber match of the three game series at Rent One Park. The Rascals struck for two unearned runs in the top of the first off Tyler Stubblefield thanks to two Southern Illinois errors, with an RBI single by Josh Silver making it 2-0. River City had a chance to score more runs, but Stubblefield struck out Clint Freeman with the bases loaded to halt the threat. The left-hander, making his Miners debut, would permit just four hits and one walk along with the two unearned runs in five strong innings of work, striking out six and keeping the Rascals at bay. River City starter Reese Gregory held the Miners off the board through the first six innings, scattering six singles.
