Southern Illinois sweeps four-game set in Sauget to move into playoff spot Sauget, IL (August 8, 2019) – The Southern Illinois Miners struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and eventually built a 7-0 lead against the Gateway Grizzlies en route to a 9-4 win at GCS Credit Union Ballpark, their eighth straight win and twelfth in their last 14 games overall, sweeping the four-game series on the road and moving into the second wild card playoff spot in the Frontier League standings. The Miners wasted no time in getting to Gateway starter Dominic Topoozian (5-5), as Omar Obregon’s leadoff single was followed in kind by singles from Yeltsin Gudino and Gianfranco Wawoe to load the bases with no one out in the first inning. After a flyout, Kyle Davis extended his hitting streak to eight in a row with a two-run double off the left field fence, making it 2-0 Southern Illinois. Later…
