Miners Make Huge Comeback To Top Evansville

MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners played their final preseason home game on Tuesday morning, and were down 7-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, but rallied all the way back to tie the score with seven runs that frame before scoring the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the eighth and beating the Evansville Otters by a score of 8-7 at Rent One Park. The Otters opened up the scoring in the second inning with an RBI double by Chris Sweeney and would plate two more in the third against Miners starter Payton Lobdell. Two errors in the fifth inning led to three more Evansville runs against reliever Andrew Ferguson, with a seventh and final run scoring with two outs in the sixth on an RBI double by Lance Montano. But Southern Illinois fought all the way back in the seventh. After Chris Fornaci was hit by a pitch from reliever Hasten Freeman, Joel McKeithan doubled him home from first to get the Miners on the board.
