Southern Illinois Miners’ infielder Shane Kennedy and Florence Freedoms’ starting pitcher Jordan Kraus were named Frontier League Players and Pitcher of the Week, respectively as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. Kennedy, in his first season of professional baseball managed to get 9 hits in his 16 at bats this week. To start off the week, Kennedy went 3-5 against the Slammers where he got 2 doubles, and 2 RBIs. He then followed up this performance going 1-3 against the Slammers again while getting 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 HBP, and 1 stolen base. In the weekend series verses the Wild Things Kennedy hit 5-8 with 3 doubles, 4 RBI, 3 walks, 2 HBP, 3 stolen bases, 1 sacrifice fly, and 6 runs scored to increase his batting average by 35 points for the overall week. He was a great help for the very hot Miners team who won all five games last week. Before joining the Frontier League Kennedy played collegiately at Clemson University in South Carolina. The 24 year old originally from Orlando, Florida was signed to the Chicago Cubs organization as a free agent…
