Southern Illinois returns to Marion for six-game homestand this week Avon, OH (June 8, 2019) – The Southern Illinois Miners had a 1-0 lead after one inning in their bid for a three-game sweep of the Lake Erie Crushers, but could not hold the home team down in the middle and late innings in a 14-1 loss at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio on Sunday afternoon. Bryant Flete led off the game with a walk against Crushers starter Dylan Mouzakes (2-1), with a passed ball and groundout getting him to third base for Gianfranco Wawoe, who brought Flete in with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 Southern Illinois lead. Starter Cody Thompson held the Crushers off the board until the bottom of the third inning, when Steven Kraft snuck a double inside the first base bag to plate James Davison, Jr. and tie the game at 1-1.
