MINERS BRING IN FOUR NEW PLAYERS FOR 2016

The Southern Illinois Miners announce that they have signed infielder Alex De Leon and right-handed pitcher Isaac Gil as well as catcher Riley Moore, and have brought in infielder Jordan Brower in a trade with the Sioux Falls Canaries of the American Association, further bolstering their roster as spring training draws closer. De Leon comes to Southern Illinois from the St. Louis Cardinals organization. A power bat, the Woodland Hills, Calif. native is coming off a full season at Single-A Peoria where he smacked 24 doubles and 11 homers along with 55 RBIs in 112 games played for the Chiefs, all career-best totals. He spent the previous two years at short-season Single-A State College, hitting .268 with 17 doubles, nine home runs and 29 RBIs in 64 games in 2014. Drafted in the 23rd round in 2013 by St. Louis, De Leon played four years at the University of Kansas, hitting .319 with 19 doubles, 10 homers and 46 RBIs to earn all-Big 12 honorable mention. “Alex is an experienced middle of the order power bat,” Miners manager Mike Pinto said. “He had great success in delivering run production in the Cardinal organization the last few years and he will…
