Miners Bounce Back, Take Series With Sunday Win Over Otters

MARION, Ill.- The Southern Illinois Miners bounced back on Sunday night at Rent One Park, producing ten total hits and winning the rubber match against the Evansville Otters by a score of 7-3 to clinch the season-opening series by a count of two games to one. The Miners got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning when London Lindley led off with a single and stole two bases before Joel McKeithan singled him home to make it 1-0. Evansville got that run back in the fourth, as after Josh Allen went to second on an infield hit and an error, Dane Phillips hit a deep fly ball to right center field that Lindley made a full-extension diving catch on, which turned into a sacrifice fly to knot the score at 1-1. But Southern Illinois would get three more runs in the bottom of the frame against Joey Webb (0-1) to take the lead for good. After a walk by Ben Moore and an infield hit by Ryan Lashley, followed by a double steal to put them at second and third, Billy Germaine came through with a two-run double for his first professional RBIs and a 3-1 Miners…
