MARION, Ill. – The Southern Illinois Miners scored three runs in the top of the first to back Payton Lobdell, then added on in the middle frames and stranded the tying run on base in the ninth to beat the Normal CornBelters 7-5 at The Corn Crib on Saturday night, taking the first two games of the weekend series with their second straight victory. Nolan Earley began the first-inning rally against Normal starter Charlie Gillies (1-1) with a single to center. An error on Diego Cedeno put Earley at third, and Ryan Lashley brought him in with a ground-rule double to make it 1-0. Marc Flores followed with a single to make it 2-0, advancing to second on an error by Nolan Meadows in right field. Two batters later, Justin Chigbogu rocketed a double off the top of the center field wall to score Flores and make it 3-0. Southern Illinois would keep adding on runs in the middle innings.
