MILLER, MINERS SHUT DOWN THE CRUSHERS TO TAKE SERIES OPENER

Marion, Ill. (August 2, 2016) – The Southern Illinois Miners got seven outstanding innings from Jarett Miller and scored four runs in the fifth and sixth innings en route to a 4-0 win over the Lake Erie Crushers on Tuesday night at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio. The game was scoreless through the first four innings as Miller (6-3) and Lake Erie left-hander Stetson Nelson (4-5) went toe-to-toe. The Miners were able to break through in the fifth inning, when Francisco Rosario singled to lead off the frame and was sacrificed to second by Aaron Gates. After moving to third on a groundout, Craig Massey came up clutch with an RBI single on the first pitch he saw to give the Miners a 1-0 lead. In the sixth inning, a leadoff walk by Steve Marino and an error put runners at first and second with no one out before Toby DeMello lined a double into the left field corner, making the score 2-0 and chasing Nelson from the game.
