The Southern Illinois Miners announce that manager Mike Pinto has reached another milestone in his storied managerial career, with his 600th career victory coming on Sunday night against the Normal CornBelters by a score of 9-3 as part of a Miners series sweep. Pinto, who is the only manager in Southern Illinois history and also took on the role of the team’s Chief Operating Officer in the offseason, achieved the victory less than two years after winning his 500th game, just after the All-Star Break in 2014 on July 19th against the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field. The 600 victories includes Mike’s two-year tenure managing the Sioux Falls Canaries in the American Association in 2005 and 2006, as well as the 12 playoff victories he has managed in Southern Illinois. He is the second-winningest manager in Frontier League history, behind only former Florence manager Fran Riordan, and also owns the fourth-most career wins (including non-Frontier League wins) of any active manager in the league. In his first nine years as the Miners’ skipper, Pinto has set the standard for on-field success in the Frontier League.
