SCHAUMBURG, IL —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, received eight strong innings from starting pitcherLars Liguori to inch closer to a playoff slot with a 2-1 win over the Joliet Slammers in the finale of a six-game homestand. Joliet opened the second inning with back-to-back singles, but Liguori limited the damage to just one run. Sean Godfrey tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, dropping down a bunt single to score Rock Shoulders. Tanner Pinkston forced home the deciding run in the fifth by drawing a bases loaded walk. Liguori retired 12 straight at one point and finished by allowing just the second inning run on six hits, striking out five. Jake Joyce finished out the game by earning his 12th save with a perfect ninth. Schaumburg finished with eight hits. Pinkston and John Holland notched two apiece.
