Lake Erie Scores Series Opening Victory Over Miners

AVON, Ohio – The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, saw a trio of pitchers hold the Southern Illinois Miners to just a run on nine hits at Sprenger Healthcare Stadium on Tuesday evening, and came away with a 2-1 victory in the series opener. The victory for the Crushers (9-13) was their second in a row, marking back-to-back back victories for the first time since May 24-25, while the loss for the Miners (8-14) snapped a three-game winning streak. Starting pitching and solid defense stole the show for most of the contest. Lake Erie’s starting pitcher Jordan Kurokowa turned in his finest start of the season, allowing just a run on five hits while fanning six over seven innings, but didn’t factor into the decision. Lake Erie was able to strike first, capitalizing on a two-out extra base hit in the bottom of the first. Jordan Dean reached on a one out infield single and he came around to score the game’s first run on Sean Hurley’s RBI double off the wall in center field.
