Lake Erie Opens Second Half With a Win Over Washington

WASHINGTON, PENN. — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, opened the second half of the season with an 8-2 win over the Washington Wild Things on Friday night. The Crushers tied their season-high with 15 hits in the victory. Neither team scored in the first three innings but the Crushers broke through in the fourth against Washington starter Michael Austin (0-2). With two outs, Austin issued a two-out walk to Dustin Williams. Bryan DeLaRosa followed with a single before Dalton Wheat ripped a single, scoring Williams. Dane Hutcheon followed with a two-run triple and the Crushers led 3-0 after four innings. Austin went just four innings and allowed three runs on seven hits in the loss. Lake Erie opened it up in the fifth inning against reliever BJ Sabol. Kewby Meyer and Joel McKeithan led off with doubles. Back-to-back singles by Cody Lenahan and Doug Trimble made it 5-0. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, DeLaRosa delivered a bases clearing double, extending the lead to 8-0. The Crushers sent nine men to the plate in the inning.
