Lake Erie Clinches Their Sixth Consecutive Road Series with 4-3 Win Over Windy City

CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS. — The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, took advantage of a few mistakes by the ThunderBolts and used some timely hitting to clinch their sixth consecutive road series with a 4-3 win on Sunday afternoon. Lake Erie starter Alex Romero (4-3) went seven innings against Windy City, which was tied for his longest start of the season. He allowed two runs on four hits and struck out four. The ThunderBolts got out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. A leadoff triple by Jonathan McCray led to the first run after Tim Zier’s sacrifice fly. The Crushers finally got to Windy City starter Zac Westcott (2-6) in the sixth inning. Sean Hurley reached on an error by third baseman Tyler Straub. Later in the inning with one out, Doug Trimble doubled into the right field corner and Hurley raced around to score. Trimble took third on an error by the right fielder Axel Johnson. Dustin Williams stepped to the plate with the infield drawn in and he singled to right, giving Lake Erie a 2-1 lead. Both runs were unearned by Westcott who went six innings while allowing five hits.
